On consumer affordability and financial resilience:
"One of the things that our research has highlighted is, one, we all know that expenses are up. Across the board, you've got CPI that's roughly 30 percent higher than it was pre-pandemic [...] We did some research that focused on what are the biggest drivers, fastest and biggest growing costs for American consumers. And it's the things that we can't avoid. It's housing, it's healthcare, it's cars, it's food [...] When you talk about affordability, it's not just expenses, it's also income. [...] But I think the most important thing that we're focused on is it's not just your expenses and your income, it's your assets and your ownership."
On the role of banks in supporting consumers:
"I think one of the things that is always interesting to people is that the CFPB years ago reported that credit cards are actually the number one way that people have access [...] to the well-regulated credit system. So people don't always associate credit cards with access, but it's such an important tool for a lot of people to have that liquidity [...] We've got free banking accounts through Bank On. You've got credit cards, you've got overdraft protection, you've got home equity lines of credit [...] I talk to bankers all the time, and especially the leadership at banks who are focused on that ladder and really helping grow that relationship over time."
On the future of banking and emerging technologies:
"We are so laser focused on the future of this industry and making sure that we're creating the best regulatory and operating environment for this industry to do what they do, to go out and to serve their consumers [...] It's such a noble profession, but it's changing. The way that these services are delivered, the technology around it, how consumers are learning about financial services through AI. So, we are thinking through [...] tokenized deposits, digital assets, agentic commerce [...] and things that banks need to understand and be thinking about now."
On regulatory reform and fraud prevention:
"We've laid down some big markers [...] around CFPB reform. And I would say for the first time, we're having some very good substantive bipartisan conversations, which is just so important because we want a credible, durable, stable CFPB [...] As we go into 2027, [we are focused] importantly on fraud. [...] It's a pervasive issue. It's not going away. The more that we open up the system to digital assets, to others, the more that we've got to figure out this issue [...] I've never been more optimistic though because we've got Members of Congress who are listening [...] We have regulators [...] pushing this conversation forward, putting tangible points on the board, all in the effort to protect consumers."
