UNM to test central campus siren following relocation

The University of New Mexico will conduct a test of its Campus Warning System on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11:02 a.m. focusing solely on the central campus siren.

This test will be different from previous exercises because the central campus siren was recently relocated as part of an ongoing construction project.

At 11:02 am, the central campus siren will sound for approximately one minute, then pause the siren for approximately one minute, followed by an "all clear" siren, again, for approximately one minute.

Individuals will receive a text and email reminder about the test through LoboAlerts on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10:45 a.m.

UNM's Emergency Alert Sirens are sounded in the event of an emergency that makes it dangerous to be outdoors, such as a severe lightning storm, an environmental hazard or a threat from an armed individual. During an actual emergency, people on campus are instructed to seek immediate shelter and await further information and instruction through the LoboAlerts system, email, the UNM website, and or local media.

Normally, this test occurs three times each year at the beginning of each semester. It is meant to give campus first responders an opportunity to activate the various systems as part of their routine training, and keep students, faculty, and staff safe. A full system test is scheduled for the 2026 spring semester.

Non-UNM persons who work on campus, live in nearby communities, or have an interest in receiving emergency notifications can also receive LoboAlerts. LoboAlerts are available via social media on the LoboAlerts Facebook and LoboAlerts Twitter pages. Individuals can also create their own accounts on the LoboAlerts Community site.

To update your LoboAlerts contact information and preferences, go to LoboAlerts and login with your UNM NetID and password.
