Weekday Cooling Centers Operating in Greensboro this Summer
Orange Flag Activation
As part of the Guilford County Continuum of Care (Guilford CoC*), the Greensboro Community Safety Department (CSD) will activate an Orange Flag on days when the forecasted daytime temperatures reach 90 degrees or higher, and overnight temperatures do not fall below 70 degrees. During Orange Flag activation, overnight cooling services will be available weekdays at the IRC 7 pm to 7 am, operated by CSD staff.
Please note the daytime cooling centers operate independent of the Orange Flag status during the summer.
The City's CSD takes a holistic, collaborative approach to improving Greensboro's public safety through community-centered prevention initiatives, crisis intervention services to help de-escalate violence, and long-term, intensive case management for individuals whose issues-such as mental health, substance use, and homelessness- have put them in frequent contact with law enforcement. *The Guilford CoC is the regional planning and coordination body responsible for strategizing, managing resources, and implementing programs to prevent and end homelessness across Guilford County.
