Honolulu (Nov. 15) - Freshman guard Mylee Anderson scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds Saturday and junior Lillee Duffin nabbed a second straight double-double help UAA stay unbeaten with an 88-59 women's basketball victory over Chaminade in the GNAC/PacWest Challenge at McCabe Gymnasium.
The Seawolves (4-0) got 10 points and 15 rebounds from Duffin, while junior guard Mahaila Harrison poured in 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting and grabbed seven boards. Senior guard Elaina Mack had 15 points and sophomore guard Kimberly Carrada Sanchez added 13 points and four assists as UAA remained unbeaten in 14 all-time meetings with Chaminade.
The Silverswords (0-2) were led by 18 points and seven rebounds from guard Alyssa Schuetze.
"I'm proud of each one of our players and how they handled business on our first road trip together," said UAA head coach Matt Thune. "Any time you can get a win on the road you have to celebrate it. We didn't play our best tonight, yet we were still effective and that's an encouraging sign to us as a coaching staff."
After falling behind 18-17 early in the second quarter, the Seawolves got a pair of timely baskets from junior guard Faith Mersburgh to kickstart a 19-2 run. Baskets by Mack and Carrada Sanchez stretched the lead to 43-23, and UAA went into the locker room up 46-27.
The hosts would never get closer in the second half as the Seawolves stretched their largest advantage to 82-45 with 4:20 remaining.
Anderson shot 5 of 10 from long range and dished three assists, while Carrada Sanchez was 3 of 7 on threes.
Duffin shot 4 of 5 from the field and matched Harrison for UAA's season high with her 15 boards.
The Seawolves return to the Alaska Airlines Center for three games next week, hosting Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday (7 pm) and Div. I opponents Nov. 21-22 in the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout. UAA plays St. Thomas in its Shootout opener Friday (7:30 pm) and faces either Bowling Green or UC Irvine on Saturday. Find tickets, live links and more at GoSeawolves.com.
