Gov. Pritzker Awards Funding to 21 Community Health Centers

$50 million made available through the Rebuild Illinois Capital Program will improve healthcare facilities and expand access to care

Springfield - Governor JB Pritzker, the Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB), and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced $50 million in grant funding has been awarded to 21 grantees through the Community Health Center Construction Grant Program. This funding was made possible by the Rebuild Illinois capital program which aims to support the construction, expansion, and improvement of community healthcare facilities across Illinois.

"Community health centers are vital for the well-being of all Illinoisans, connecting residents with the critical primary and preventative services they need," said Governor JB Pritzker. "While the Trump Administration is limiting who has access to essential healthcare, Illinois is making critical investments to close the gap. Today, I am pleased to announce 21 organizations will now be better equipped to deliver quality healthcare to all Illinoisians."

At a time when the Trump administration is cutting critical healthcare funding, the Community Health Center Construction Grant Program reflects Illinois' ongoing commitment to modernizing healthcare facilities and ensuring providers have clinical spaces to offer quality care. The Community Health Center Construction Grant Program provides up to up to $3 million grants to Federally Qualified Health Centers and look-alikes for capital improvement projects. Funding can be used to renovate healthcare infrastructure, increase facility capacity, and expand access to care and services in Illinois communities, particularly in underserved and rural areas.

"The Community Health Center Construction Grant Program will help reduce healthcare disparities and better meet the needs of patients and healthcare staff, said CDB Executive Director TJ Edwards. "CDB is proud to partner with IDPH to ensure these projects give providers the spaces they need to deliver high-quality care."

"Public health is driven by the power of partnership," said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra. "Community health centers are an essential component of our efforts to improve public health by ensuring that health services and programs are easily accessible in every Illinois community. We are pleased to work with the Capital Development Board and local partners around the state on projects that will help ensure care is available to all who need it."
