On 2 March, Consul General Chen Shijie attended the 5th Anniversary Celebration of New Zealand Baiyun Lion Dance Club and delivered a speech. Over 400 guests participated in the event, including Members of Parliament Carlos Cheung, Nancy Lu and other representatives from New Zealand Baiyun Lion Dance Club and the local Chinese community.
In his speech, Consul General Chen extended Lantern Festival greetings to members of the Chinese community in the consular district and introduced China's development achievements over the past year as well as the latest progress in China-New Zealand relations. Chen noted that in New Zealand's multicultural society, the Baiyun Lions Dance Club, through its spectacular performances, brings the traditional Chinese cultural arts of dragon and lion dances which are symbols of strength and good fortune to life and build a bridge for cultural exchange and enhance ethnic integration. He called on the overseas Chinese to keep pooling their strengths and together with the Consulate-General to make greater contributions to promoting exchanges and cooperation in various fields between China and New Zealand.
The event was filled with a strong festive atmosphere, with overseas Chinese performers presenting exciting programs including dragon and lion dances, face-changing performances, songs, and instrumental music.
