Road accident in Tanzania: several Carmelite Missionary Sisters of Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus killed. The Italian Embassy is providing assistance
The Italian Embassy in Dar es Salaam, in coordination with the Foreign Ministry, is following the case of several nuns from the Congregation of the Carmelite Missionary Sisters of Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus, involved in a severe road accident on Monday, 15 September, in the Mwanza region (northwestern Tanzania). The accident killed Italian Sister Nerina De Simone, Counsellor and General Secretary, other Tanzanian nuns (including the Congregation's Superior General, Lilian Kapongo, who has lived in Santa Marinella for several years), and the driver of the vehicle.
The Embassy is in contact with the order to which the nuns belong and with local authorities to complete the necessary formalities.
