ITC to host Community Listening Sessions in October for upcoming Copperton Projects

NOVI, Michigan (September 17, 2026) - ITC Michigan will hold a series of Community Listening Sessions from October 5-22 to share the route segment networks for new electric transmission projects across mid-Michigan. The preliminary project area for the Copperton Projects include parts of Bay, Clare, Gratiot, Isabella, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Midland, Montcalm, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola and Saginaw counties.

The Copperton Projects include approximately 255 miles of new 345 kV transmission lines from Copperton-Ludington, Copperton-Nelson Road and Copperton-Tittabawassee, and the addition of 345 kV equipment to the Salt River substation (Copperton) in Midland County.

The projects will bring needed high-voltage transmission infrastructure to mid-Michigan. An interactive map of the route segment networks are available for the public to review.

"Our goal is to listen early and often to ensure community feedback plays a meaningful role as the projects move forward," said Jim Tedder, regional manager for ITC Michigan. "We are in the early stages of route planning, and we invite residents to attend the Community Listening Sessions to learn more, ask questions and share input on the route segment networks."

The Community Listening Sessions will be hosted in an open house style, enabling community members to speak with the project team about routing, design, construction and other project details.

The Copperton Projects are part of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator's (MISO) Long-Range Transmission Plan, a larger effort to enhance Michigan's power grid and meet the state's growing energy needs.
