House Republicans Pass Legislation to End Democrat Programs Driving Up Housing Costs

WASHINGTON
-Today, the House passed the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act, legislation led by Rep. Craig Goldman (R-Texas) to restore consumer choice and reduce federal mandates that increase housing costs nationwide.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Goldman released the following statements:

"House Republicans are bringing housing costs down by stopping Washington from shoving radical mandates down the throats of American families," Chairwoman McClain said. "The Democrats' energy agenda jacked up regulatory costs, strangled home construction, and pushed the American Dream further out of reach. This bill rips out the red tape, puts families back in charge of their own homes and budgets, and tells the federal government to get out of the way. Americans don't need bureaucrats deciding how they live. They need affordable homes and a fair shot."

"Costly green energy regulations from the Biden Administration have worsened housing affordability. Many Americans can no longer afford to raise their families in their own homes. I'm proud to work alongside Chairwoman McClain and my House Republican colleagues to repeal these regulations and help restore the American Dream of homeownership for all Americans," Rep. Goldman said.

The Homeowner Energy Freedom Act repeals three programs created under Biden's Inflation Reduction Act that incentivize stricter federal building energy codes and electric appliance subsidies. The legislation also rescinds unused federal funds and restores homeowner choice over how Americans heat and power their homes.
