Permanent Secretary Jaatinen to meet leadership of NASA and US Energy Department

Timo Jaatinen, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, will visit the United States on 23-26 March 2026. The purpose of the trip is to promote the business of Finnish health technology companies and to strengthen Finland's cooperation with the US space and energy administration.

Jaatinen will meet Jared Isaacman, the head of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) responsible for NASA's strategy, budget and space programmes in Washington, DC on 25 March. The discussions will focus on international space cooperation and the current priorities of US space policy.

The Permanent Secretary will also meet with Darío Gil, the Under Secretary for Science at the U.S. Department of Energy. The meeting agenda will include energy cooperation between Finland and the United States, especially investments in nuclear energy as well as solutions for final disposal of spent nuclear fuel.

In the first part of the trip on 23-24 March, Jaatinen will lead a Team Finland health technology delegation's visit to New York and Boston. The programme will include meetings with investors, companies and healthcare organisations with the aim of promoting cooperation. The delegation consists of health and life science companies from Finland and key public bodies that advance international cooperation, business opportunities and the commercialisation of innovations in the US.

During the visit, Jaatinen will also discuss US economic and trade policy and its effects on the international operating environment with US experts.
