At the start of the new academic semester, Daugavpils University welcomes 49 Erasmus+ exchange students from 11 European and partner countries. These young scholars are joining the DU academic community for one semester to attend study courses, enhance their professional knowledge, and experience Latvian culture.
This time, the international students have arrived from:
The majority of Erasmus students have chosen to study English and Russian Philology, joining the DU Bachelor's study programme "Languages and Cultural Studies." Additionally, students will be enrolled in the Bachelor's programmes "Psychology" and "Biology"; Professional Bachelor's programmes "Music," "Information Technology," and "Business and Financial Processes"; Master's programmes "Educational Sciences," "Biology," "Chemistry," and "Philology and Applied Linguistics"; as well as the Doctoral study programme "Management Science."
On February 10, 2026, a formal welcome ceremony for international Erasmus+ students was held at the Daugavpils University concert hall. During the event, students were warmly welcomed into the DU family, introduced to the university's structure and study process, and encouraged to take an active part in both academic and social life. The friendly and open atmosphere helped the new students feel a sense of belonging to the university community from their very first days.
The students were addressed and welcomed by DU Vice-Rector for Studies Inese Kokina, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Mārīte Kravale-Pauliņa, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care Natālija Degtjarjova, and the Chairperson of the DU Student Council Annija Rozentāle. Velta Trūle, Project Manager for International Student Recruitment at the Department of International and Public Relations, gave a presentation on Latvia, Daugavpils, and the history of Daugavpils University.
The event was enriched by musical and dance performances - DU lecturer Gļebs Beļajevs created a special atmosphere with a musical performance, while the choreographer of the Student Dance Ensemble "LAIMA," Marita Irbe, introduced the students to Latvian folk dance traditions.
We welcome the new members of our international study community and wish them a successful and inspiring semester at Daugavpils University!
