MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Alabama Department of Human Resources is excited to announce a new computer system for the SNAP and TANF programs called the Alabama Combined Eligibility System, or ACES.
ACES is an integrated eligibility system combining the 12 current systems into one, modernized and streamlined software making the SNAP and TANF application processes easier and more efficient for clients, DHR staff, and providers.
There will be three portals for ACES: a portal for DHR staff and caseworkers; a client portal for current and prospective SNAP and TANF clients; and a provider portal for workforce placement providers.
The pilot for ACES will begin Monday, October 5, in five counties: Montgomery, Elmore, Tuscaloosa, Dallas, and Talladega. This pilot is necessary to test the system for workers, providers and clients in these five counties. Clients in these five counties only will begin using the ACES self-service portal on October 5.
The new self-service portal will allow SNAP and TANF clients to easily apply for benefits, check the status of their application, submit recertification documentation, and much more.
"Creating this new eligibility system has been years in the making, but as we prepare for the final phases of launch, we are proud of what this new system will mean to our clients, providers and staff," said Commissioner Nancy Buckner. "ACES creates a more user-friendly environment for our clients and providers, as well as improves the workflow for our staff as we strive to make both programs as efficient and accessible as possible."
Letters will be mailed to SNAP and TANF clients in the pilot counties on October 8 providing more details about the new system, quick tips on how to use it, and what to expect moving forward.
Please note: The new ACES system will not impact clients' benefit issuance date or the amount of benefits issued.
Following a successful pilot program, ACES will tentatively go live statewide in January 2027.
Clients may access the portal here.
