Motorcycle driver dies following June 1 crash at East Fillmore Street and North Prospect Street

On June 1, 2026, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a reported vehicle-versus-motorcycle collision at the intersection of East Fillmore Street and North Prospect Street. Upon arrival, officers determined that a vehicle traveling eastbound on Fillmore Street attempted an unprotected left turn into a business parking lot. During the turn, the vehicle was struck by a westbound motorcycle. The driver of the vehicle was evaluated on scene, reported no injuries, and was released after cooperating with investigators.

The motorcycle operator was pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the nature of the crash, the CSPD Major Crash Team was activated and responded to conduct a detailed investigation. At this time the cause of this crash is still under investigation.

On June 2, 2026, the CSPD was notified by the El Paso County Coroner's Office that the motorcycle operator had been positively identified as 23-year-old Dawson Debolt.

This crash marks the 25th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time last year, the city experienced 16 traffic fatalities. Over the past 365 days, there have been 63 traffic-related fatalities in Colorado Springs.
