The Cass County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Essentia Health Trauma Program, has developed the Cass County Sheriff's Office Field Medical Course. Personnel from the Sheriff's Office and Essentia spent five months designing this curriculum and obtaining training certification through the North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board.
This eight-hour training encompasses medical casualty care and assessment, as well as knowledge of medical equipment and hands-on practical exercises. The Sheriff's Office has currently trained fifty deputies, with twenty more deputies scheduled to complete their training this week.
Sheriff Jesse Jahner said, "The training will help provide our staff the necessary tools and knowledge needed to help our rural first responders save lives in critical situations. This training encompasses a number of medical intervention techniques that can be incorporated during mass injury situations such as active shooter and general medical life saving measures."
