Alexandria, VA - The Alexandria Police Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Captain Mike May and Captain Jason North as the Department's newest Assistant Chiefs following a highly competitive national search process that received more than 50 applicants.
Assistant Chief Mike May joined the Alexandria Police Department in 1997, while Assistant Chief Jason North has served with the Department since 2005. Together, they bring nearly 50 years of combined service and extensive experience across operational, investigative, and leadership assignments.
Both appointees will serve in an interim capacity until the effective date of their promotions. A formal promotion ceremony and permanent bureau assignments will be announced in the coming months.

Assistant Chief Mike May most recently served as Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division. Throughout his career, he has led Patrol Operations, Emergency Readiness, Hiring and Recruitment, and the Hostage Negotiations Team. May is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Metropolitan Police Leadership Academy and is widely recognized for his longstanding commitment to community engagement and youth outreach throughout Alexandria.
Assistant Chief Jason North most recently served as Captain overseeing Patrol Operations for Sector One, including Old Town Alexandria. He previously held leadership assignments in Technology Services, Traffic Safety, and Strategic Initiatives, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Institute for Regional Excellence.
