I-285 Weekend Lane Closures in SW Fulton, NB MLK Exit Ramp Closed, May 29-June 1, Expect Delays, Plan Alternate Routes
ATLANTA - Work crews for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will install multiple lanes and ramp closures on Interstate 285 (I-285) this weekend along 10 miles of I-285 in Fulton County from State Route (SR) 14/South Fulton Parkway in College Park to Collier Road. The lane and ramp closures are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 29 and continue to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 1. This series of lane closures continues the ongoing concrete slab reconstruction and rehabilitation project currently ongoing along the westside of the I-285 corridor.

Weather and on-site conditions permitting, these are the lane and ramp closures scheduled from 9 p.m. on Friday, May 29 through 5 a.m. on Monday, June 1:
  • I-285 southbound:
    • Two left lanes will be closed between Cascade Road (exit 7) and Camp Creek Parkway (exit 2)
  • I-285 northbound:
    • Two right lanes will be closed between Camp Creek Parkway (exit 2) and SR 154/SR 166/Langford Parkway (exit 5)
    • Two right lanes and the right shoulder lane will be closed between SR 139/Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (exit 9) and Cascade Road (exit 7).
    • The I-285 northbound exit ramp to SR 139/Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (exit 9) will be closed to traffic. Roadway signage will direct traffic to the detour route.
NOTE:Round 2 of this project's Full Interstate Closure and Detour is scheduled for next weekend, Friday, June 5- Monday, June 8. Weather permitting, during that weekend, I-285 will be closed to all traffic between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Cascade Road. All traffic approaching the area will be detoured - roadside signage will alert drivers of the closures in advance and direct to the detour route.

Crews will be milling/grinding the roadway concrete in preparation to repair or replace the concrete slabs through the project area. Lane closures are necessary to provide sufficient space for crews to work safely and to protect motorists while large equipment is in operation. . Motorists are urged to pay attention to shifting and changing travel infrastructure along the corridor. Roadside message boards and signage will alert drivers in advance of lane shifts and closures.

PROJECT DETAILS
This closure supports the ongoing I-285 Westside reconstruction project, which spans 10 miles from SR 14/South Fulton Parkway in College Park to Collier Road.
Contractor work crews will:
  • Mill and grind existing concrete pavement
  • Prepare for slab repair and replacement
Lane closures are required to:
  • Safely accommodate heavy equipment operations
  • Provide adequate workspace for crews
  • Protect motorists

Please note that additional full closures of segments of I-285 will help facilitate faster construction for the duration of these projects.

Motorists should:
  • Avoid the I-285 corridor on the west side of Atlanta
