September 2024 annual meeting recap

Adams Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting, Sept. 4

Adams Electric held its Annual Meeting at the Adams County Fairgrounds, with 701 registered members in attendance. Treasurer Tom Travis reported that $564,236 of total capital credits were paid out in 2023 to its members. General Manager Jim Thompson said the cooperative was successful in negotiating a U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Clean Energy Demonstration Grant for $5 million to install two generation facilities. The project will include installing a 1 MW wind turbine and a 1 MW solar facility that will be interconnected directly to the cooperative's distribution grid. The cooperative was also successful in receiving an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency grant to install direct current electric vehicle fast chargers. During the event, members voted for directors. Three directors were reelected to three-year terms on the board: Rex Niekamp (District 7), Glen Koch (District 8) and Rebecca Barlow (District 9).

Southwestern Illinois Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting, Sept. 7

Southwestern Electric Cooperative held its Annual Meeting of Members at the American Farm Heritage Museum in Greenville. Members elected one member from each of the cooperative's three voting districts to serve on the co-op's board of directors. In total, 1,931 Southwestern Electric members registered to vote in the election. All three board candidates were incumbents and ran unopposed. During the business meeting, members approved a motion to elect William "Bill" Jennings of Alhambra (District I), Jerry Gaffner of Greenville (District II), and Jared Stine of St. Elmo (District III) by acclamation. Each director will serve a three-year term on the board.

Adams Telephone Cooperative Annual Meeting, Sept. 11

Adams Telephone Co-Operative held its 72nd Annual Meeting of Members on Sept. 11 at their headquarters in Golden. Over 450 people were in attendance. At the business meeting, members were updated about Adams' operations and re-elected Daron Duke to represent the Lima and Loraine exchanges and Tracy Lawson to represent the Fishhook, Chambersburg and Hersman exchanges. Each director will serve for a three-year term.
