Debby Short to retire at the end of July

July 22, 2026

After more than 31 years of dedicated service to Western, Debby Short will retire at the end of July! Debby started out in the Purchasing Department in 1994, working as a purchasing assistant, then as a buyer, and eventually as the p-card administrator. In 2007, she moved to the Vice President's Office for Student Affairs (later known as Enrollment & Student Services) as a fiscal analyst. In July 2025, she joined Strategy, Management, and Budget during the institutional restructure.

Reflecting on her time at Western, Debby shared:

"I have interacted with so many talented, dedicated colleagues during my years at Western. It has been a privilege to work with each of you. Thank you, especially, to my supervisors who mentored me, gave me challenges and opportunities, and cared about me as a person, not just an employee. Many things have changed at WWU over 30 years, but the one constant is the good people who give their time and talents to creating a positive environment for learning!"

Please join Debby for an informal happy hour to toast the next chapter of her life:

Wednesday, July 29, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
El Sueñito Brewing Company
1926 Humboldt St., Bellingham
