SIIA Joins Multi-Industry Letter Warning PTAB Changes Threaten U.S. Innovation and National Security

The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) joined a coalition of leading manufacturing, technology, and innovation organizations in a letter to senior White House and administration officials warning that emerging Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) practices could undermine U.S. national security, economic competitiveness, and innovation leadership.

In the letter, SIIA and its partners explain that restricting access to inter partes review (IPR) shifts patent disputes into federal courts and the International Trade Commission, exposing U.S. companies to invasive discovery that can reveal sensitive source code, trade secrets, and advanced manufacturing processes. The coalition urges policymakers to recognize that weakening PTAB safeguards risks empowering foreign adversaries and litigation financiers at the expense of American companies, supply chains, and the Administration's industrial and AI strategy.
