Nestlé workers demand transparency and guarantees on waters partnership

Published: 09/10/2025

After a demonstration outside Nestlé's headquarters in Vevey on September 29, 2025, supported by the IUF, worker representatives on the Nestlé European Council for Information and Communication (NECIC) met in Geneva on September 30 for an ad hoc meeting with Nestlé management.

The purpose of this meeting was to demand information from Nestlé Waters' global management on the planned partnership project, along with firm guarantees from the company to protect workers' rights. Representatives from six European countries directly affected by the planned sale of the waters business took part, reflecting the concern of Nestlé Waters' 5,500 employees in Europe.

"Workers must have clear guarantees that jobs, wages, and rights will be protected before any partnership is finalized," said one NECIC delegate. The full statement from the NECIC is available in English, French, Italian, Spanish, and Polish.

The NECIC appointed Syndex, a consultancy specializing in supporting employee representatives on company strategies and restructuring, to assist throughout the consultation process. They also stressed that the partnership must address not only investment and growth but also the protection of jobs, working conditions, and social benefits across all sites.

The workers' representatives concluded their meeting with a solidarity photo in support of the people of Palestine and for peace in Gaza.
