City of San Rafael Announces an October 3rd Community Webinar to learn more about the City's homelessness response and to Launch Communications Campaign Highlighting Efforts to Address Homelessness

San Rafael, CA - On August 19, 2024, the City of San Rafael provided a comprehensive update to the City Council and the community regarding its ongoing efforts to address homelessness. To continue informing and engaging the community, the City is launching a communications campaign that tells the story of homelessness in San Rafael through regular posts across multiple platforms.

The communications campaign will use visual storytelling to:

  1. Highlight the historical context of homelessness in San Rafael - Offering a broader understanding of the issue's evolution in the City and County of Marin.
  2. Inform how services are delivered-Clarify the roles of the City, County, and community-based organizations and service providers.
  3. Illustrate the legal challenges and limitations - Addressing key legal decisions like Boise v. Martin, the City's camping ordinance, the Governor's recent executive order, and other legal constraints to enforcement of local regulations.
  4. Demonstrate what the City is doing to address homelessness and its vision for the future-Share information about the evolving partnership with the County of Marin on funding, the sanctioned camping program/area, and long-term goals.

The City is hosting a Virtual Community Webinar on Homelessness on October 3rd, 2024, at 6:00 p.m., focused on providing the latest homelessness update and discussing the City and County's joint plan to open a sanctioned camping rea. Community members are encouraged to participate, ask questions, and share feedback. For more details and access to the Zoom link, visit the event page here.

"Our goal is to share the depth and scope of the City's efforts in addressing homelessness," said Mayo Kate. "We encourage the community to stay informed and engaged, particularly in upcoming events like the October 3rd webinar, where we will discuss key updates and hear directly from the public."

Community members are encouraged to follow these updates on Nextdoor, the City's homelessness webpage, and the City's social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter).
