CORREA REFUSES PAY DURING GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN, STANDS WITH SERVICEMEMBERS, FEDERAL WORKERS

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Today, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) sent a letter to Catherine Szpindor, Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives, demanding that his pay be withheld until the government shutdown is concluded.

"Since the Congress was unable to pass a budget, and the government has been shut down, I would like to request that my pay be withheld until the government funding is passed and the shutdown is over," Correa wrote. "It is my understanding that the Constitution requires Members of Congress to receive their pay during a lapse in appropriations. However, I wish to forgo my pay until those most hurt by the shutdown are made whole and ask that my salary be withheld for the duration of a government shutdown."

Following the delivery of this letter, Correa released the below statement:

"Sadly, because of the federal government shutdown, air traffic controllers, U.S. Border Patrol agents, and active-duty military members will continue to work without a paycheck. As long as federal workers don't get paid, I refuse to take my paycheck. I've requested that my paycheck be withheld until this government shutdown is over."
