Hoeven Statement on USDA Purchase of $50 Million in Dry Beans

USDA Secretary Announces $230 Million in Section 32 Purchases

WASHINGTON - Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee and a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, issued the following statement after U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) intends to purchase up to $230 million, including $50 million in dry beans, for communities in need. Hoeven has outlined to USDA the importance of such purchases, particularly of dry beans, including in a recent meeting with Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Stephen Vaden.

"These local food purchases are a win-win situation, providing another market for our hard-working producers while filling food banks and other local organizations that help with nutrition assistance," said Hoeven. "We appreciate Secretary Rollins, Deputy Secretary Vaden and the Trump administration for helping to get these U.S.-grown products, like dry beans, onto the plates of those in need."
