Registered Nurses, Customer Service Representatives and Retail Salespersons are the Top Jobs in April

MONTGOMERY - Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Workforce's Labor Market Information (LMI) Division

shows that in April 2026, there

were 120,341 job ads posted in Alabama, representing a monthly increase of 5,250 ads or 4.6% over the month. This also shows an 22.6% increase over the year from April 2025.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Customer Service Representatives, Retail Salespersons, General and Operations Managers and Fast Food and Counter Workers with 10,188 ads placed for those occupations in April.

In April 2026, the median advertised wage was $53,040 per year. There were 0.54 candidates for every one job opening in April 2026.

"April's job posting data reflects Alabama's continued economic momentum, with more than 120,000 online job ads signaling strong employer demand across healthcare, retail, hospitality, and management occupations," said Workforce Secretary Greg Reed. "As we enter the summer hiring season, the continued growth in advertised opportunities, combined with rising wages and a competitive labor market, demonstrates that Alabama employers are actively seeking skilled talent to meet workforce needs. These numbers reinforce the importance of strengthening workforce development efforts to connect Alabamians with the high-quality careers available across our state," Reed continued.

"Our career centers across the state stand ready to help job seekers navigate the application process and connect Alabamians with the growing number of in-demand career opportunities available this summer and beyond."

The top two employers posting the most online ads in February 2026 were Huntsville Hospital with 1,272 ads and Walmart Inc. with 918 ads. The rest of the top 10 were: McDonald's (786), The University of Alabama At Birmingham (674), Tacala, LLC (588), Baptist Health - Central Alabama (483), O'Reilly Auto Parts (475), UAB Health System (474), Allied Universal (374) and DCH Health System with 358 online job ads listed.
