Register for Household Hazardous Waste Recycling

Dunwoody, GA - August 6, 2026 - Dunwoody residents can now register for this year's Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, in the parking lot at Dunwoody City Hall (4800 Ashford Dunwoody Road). The free event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to Dunwoody residents only. Residents can find a registration link and select a drop-off time online: www.dunwoodyga.gov/waste.

"This event gives Dunwoody residents a convenient way to support the City's sustainability efforts by safely disposing of materials that could otherwise end up in a landfill," said Dunwoody Community Development Director Richard McLeod. "It remains a priority for the Community Development Department and the Dunwoody Sustainability Committee, and we're grateful for the strong participation we see each year from City Council and residents."

During last year's event, more than 500 residents participated. Together they recycled 49,266 pounds of household hazardous waste. This included 26,826 pounds of latex paint pails, 6,722 pounds of oil-based paint, 5,840 pounds of pesticides and 1,304 pounds of motor oil.

Items that WILL be accepted include the following: oil and latex paints, stains, paint thinner, automobile batteries, household batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, gasoline, diesel, household cleaners, pool chemicals, household chemicals, pesticides, flammables, light bulbs and tubes (CFLs and fluorescent), and corrosives.

Items that will NOT be accepted include the following: agricultural waste, bio-hazardous/bio-medical waste, ammunition, explosives, radioactive materials, smoke detectors, cylinders of acetylene, oxygen, carbon dioxide, helium, and refrigerant gases.

Residents will need to bring proof of residency to the event. Disposal amounts are limited. Commercial quantities are not allowed at this event.
