From March 5 to 7, H.E. Amb. Yang Xiaokun led a delegation of more than 20 representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Lesotho, Chinese enterprises in Lesotho, and the local Chinese community to participate in the 2026 Moshoeshoe Walk. His Majesty King Letsie III, Her Majesty Queen Masenate, several government officials, representatives of diplomatic missions in Lesotho, and over a thousand hiking enthusiasts also took part in the event. Xinhua News Agency reported on the activity.
Ambassador Yang had friendly exchanges with the Queen, government officials, members of the public, and local media along the route. At the closing ceremony, he delivered remarks emphasizing that the walk reflects the Basotho spirit of resilience and unity, which is particularly meaningful as Lesotho marks the 60th anniversary of its independence. He noted that the Chinese Embassy attaches great importance to Lesotho's cultural activities and is committed to promoting the continuous deepening of China-Lesotho friendship.
Ambassador Yang also highlighted that the walk is an important event in Lesotho under the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. China will work with Lesotho to implement the outcomes of the Year of People-to-People Exchanges and the results of Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to Lesotho, and to further advance the China-Lesotho strategic partnership.
The walk covers a total distance of 116 kilometers, retracing the historic route taken by King Moshoeshoe I during the founding of the Basotho nation.
