Fact Sheet: New Energy Projects from U.S. - Japan Trade Deal

These three new project announcements are a direct result of President Trump's historic $550 billion trade deal with Japan, which will accelerate economic growth, bolster critical supply chains, and strengthen U.S. national and economic security. Spanning from East Texas to Southwest Pennsylvania, these strategic investments target critical energy infrastructure and expand domestic power generation through advanced nuclear and natural gas hubs, stabilizing prices for Americans and making energy more affordable.

Deal 1: GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300s SMRs

Location: Tennessee and Alabama

Project Type: Small Modular Nuclear Reactors (SMRs)

Cost: Up to $40 Billion

Capacity: 3 GW

Operator: GE Vernova Hitachi (GVH)

Description: The groundbreaking commercial deployment of the advanced SMRs in the U.S. will serve as a next-generation stable power source, stabilizing electricity prices for the American people and strengthening the U.S. leadership in global technological competition. The Project aligns with the U.S. energy dominance agenda by expanding domestic power generation, enabling long-term national energy security. Nuclear power from SMRs would fuel industrial growth by adding firm, dispatchable capacity.

Deal 2: Southwest Pennsylvania Natural Gas Generation Facility (Project South Mon)

Location: Southwest Pennsylvania

Project Type: Natural Gas-Fired Power Generation Hub

Cost: $17 Billion

Capacity: 4.3 GW of natural gas-fired generation capable of serving up to 3.5 GW of large-load demand

Operator: NextEra Energy Resources

Description: This facility will connect to existing interstate natural gas pipelines within the Marcellus and Utica shale region and interconnect with the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland (PJM) regional transmission network serving the Mid-Atlantic electricity market. The Project aims to deliver reliable, dispatchable energy supply at scale. This generation capacity is strategically positioned to support rapidly growing electricity demand.

Deal 3: Texas Natural Gas Generation Facility (Project Anderson)

Location: Anderson County, Texas

Project Type: Natural Gas-Fired Power Generation Hub

Cost: $16 Billion

Capacity: Up to 5.2 GW of natural gas-fired generation capable of serving up to 5 GW of large-load demand

Operator: NextEra Energy Resources

Description: Located within the rapidly growing Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market, this Project takes advantage of East Texas's abundant natural gas supply and strong transmission infrastructure to deliver power at scale. It will provide dispatchable power to meet the significantly increasing electricity demand. Expanding this domestic power generation capacity supports broader U.S. economic objectives, strengthening both national energy security and technological competitiveness.
