Investments in Local Infrastructure Improve Reliability for PECO Customers in Chester County in 2025

Investments to improve reliability and resiliency are paying off for southeastern Pennsylvania customers

PHILADELPHIA (March 23, 2026) -PECO's significant infrastructure investments, use of innovative technologies, and its dedicated team of employees all helped the company keep the lights on for customers and reduce power outages in 2025. Despite the impacts of several severe storms, including 13th most impactful storm in company history, PECO customers experienced the fourth-lowest power outage rate in company history, with 73 percent of PECO customers experiencing zero or one outage in 2025. Even when outages could not be prevented, crews were able to safely restore power in just 88 minutes on average, improving upon 2024's average restoration time.

In 2025, PECO implemented a wide range of projects in Chester County to reinforce the electric distribution system. These efforts are part of a larger commitment to invest nearly $10 billion over the next five years to complete targeted system enhancements and corrective maintenance, invest in new equipment, inspect equipment, and perform necessary tree pruning and other vegetation management.

In Chester County, this work included replacing approximately 63 miles of underground distribution cable and completing 56 projects to ensure safe and reliable service. Examples include:

  • West Whiteland, West Goshen, & East Goshen Townships: Converted a portion of existing circuit to a higher voltage, replaced and upgraded poles, conducted vegetation management improvements to reduce the impact of extreme weather on electric infrastructure.
  • Charlestown & Schuylkill Township: Converted a portion of an existing circuit to a higher voltage, relocated aerial facilities, and installed new automated devices for outage detection.

To enhance electric reliability, PECO continues to install automated devices known as reclosers that help detect and isolate outages. In 2025, 120 new reclosers have been installed, bringing the total number of devices across PECO's territory over 3,600 devices. Each year these devices help to avoid more than 1 million customer interruptions.

In addition, PECO is executing a strategic tree and vegetation management program to help enhance reliability. In 2025, PECO's vegetation management team analyzed and performed work onmore than 600 miles of aerial electric lines and infrastructure in Chester County. In addition, PECO contractors also supported vegetation management for large infrastructure projects. Trees and other vegetation account for approximately 40 percent power outages, which is why addressing trees surrounding aerial power lines is an integral part of PECO's commitment to enhancing service reliability, extending beyond regular equipment maintenance and repairs.
