Cedars-Sinai Experts Present Research at Endocrinology Conference

Cedars-Sinai endocrinologists will share new research and clinical advances at ENDO 2025, the Endocrine Society's annual meeting, July 12-15 in San Francisco.

A pair of Cedars-Sinai investigations highlighted by the Endocrine Society found that people with hypothyroidism are at increased risk for developing small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). Excessive levels of certain microbes in the small intestine can cause severe bloating, diarrhea, constipation and nutrient deficiencies.

"We found that the risk for developing SIBO more than doubled in participants with an underactive thyroid. An additional study showed that was especially true if the patients were diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, also known as autoimmune thyroiditis," said Ruchi Mathur, MD , senior author of the study and a professor of Medicine and director of Clinical Research and Operations in the Medically Associated Science and Technology (MAST) Program at Cedars-Sinai.

Cedars-Sinai experts will be available throughout the meeting for interviews on diabetes, neuroendocrinology, pituitary gland disorders, metabolism, obesity, reproductive endocrinology, insulin regulation and continuous glucose monitoring.

  • "Endocrine Society and Pituitary Society Joint Presidential Symposium: Updates in Pituitary Adenomas," a symposium led by Shlomo Melmed, MB, ChB , executive vice president of Medicine and Health Sciences, dean of the Medical Faculty and the Helene A. and Philip E.
