UNESCO and MAFINDO Strengthen Media and Information Literacy For Indonesian Educators

The discussion also generated recommendations for further improvement, including integrating Indonesian cultural and religious values, local wisdom, additional real-world case studies and practical mitigation strategies.

Building on these inputs, UNESCO and Mafindo conducted a two-day training workshop, "Implementation of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) for Teachers," on September 19-20, 2025. The workshop brought together 25 teachers from Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) and Cirebon to strengthen their understanding of MIL concepts and pedagogical approaches.

Through interactive learning sessions and teaching simulations, participants applied MIL principles through hands-on exercises. By the end of the workshop, participants reported a significant increase in their understanding of the MIL concepts, with two-thirds of the participating teachers showing a firm commitment to implementing the MIL module in their respective schools.

As a follow-up, Mafindo will pilot the integration of the MIL modules and boardgame in ten schools across Greater Jakarta from October 2025 onwards.

These initiatives reflects the shared vision of UNESCO, Mafindo, and the European Union to promote Media and Information Literacy as a lifelong skill. By fostering critical thinking, responsible digital engagement, and resilience against online misinformation, the program contributes directly to building a more informed and peaceful digital society.
