Klobuchar to Bring Sean Syverson, Minnesota Small Business Owner Impacted by Tariffs, as her Guest to the State of the Union

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar announced that Sean Syverson, owner of Swing Barrel Brewing in Moorhead, will be her guest for the President's State of the Union address on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

"Small business owners in Minnesota like Sean have been hit hard by the tariffs imposed by this Administration," said Klobuchar. "Breweries have struggled with rising aluminum costs due to tariffs on Canadian imports, making canning and distribution more difficult. Sean will be there to represent all the Americans who are being crushed by rising costs as the administration has decided to double down on tariffs."

"These tariffs are such a challenge because of the uncertainty and the instability that we face - not knowing what our costs are going to be, when they're going to rise, how they're going to rise, how it's going to upset the supply chain," Syverson said. "There are many variables that we just don't know, and that makes it really hard for a business of our size to plan because we do not have a surplus of money to gamble with."

Sean and his friend John Kapla opened Swing Barrel Brewing Co. in downtown Moorhead in 2021. Breweries like Swing Barrel have been hit especially hard by aluminum tariffs that have increased the cost of aluminum cans.
