Portland, OR, January 28, 2026 - Discogs , the world's largest music discovery and record collecting platform, has reached a new all-time milestone as collectors worldwide added more than 114.2 million items to their Discogs' Collections in 2025. The figure marks the largest single year of collecting activity in Discogs' 25 year history, surpassing the previous record of 105.7 million items added in 2024.
Driven entirely by fan activity, the milestone reflects the continued growth of global music collecting and the central role Discogs plays in documenting, preserving, and valuing recorded music. In total, more than 920 million items are now cataloged across all Discogs' Collections, with the platform on track to surpass one billion cataloged items in 2026.
Throughout 2025, collectors added an average of nearly 2.2 million items per week, underscoring both the scale of Discogs' global community and the enduring passion for physical music formats. Today, the average Discogs collection contains 191 items, with an average estimated value of $571.77, based on Q4 2025 data from Discogs.
The albums, artists, and formats most frequently added to collections in 2025 were highlighted in Discogs' Year in Review 2025, which analyzed global collection data, marketplace activity, and discography trends to identify what music fans valued most. Read more on Billboard and Rolling Stone .
One notable shift in 2025 reflected how modern reissues and pop culture continue to reshape collecting habits. A 2015 180-gram vinyl reissue of Nirvana's Nevermind and a 2017 picture disc edition of Taylor Swift's Reputation both rose into the top tier of the most collected releases of all time, pushing the original 1982 pressing of Michael Jackson's Thriller out of the top five individual releases. While Thriller remains the No. 5 most collected master release of all time. The movement highlights how the most collected releases today are all relatively modern editions, with none predating 2012, reflecting how the resurgence of vinyl, reissues, and format-driven collecting has reshaped what defines a "canonical" record on collectors' shelves.
