Members of New Jersey's Congressional Delegation Release Joint Statement on Recent Halting of Billions of Approved DOT Funding for Crucial New Jersey Projects

Today, New Jersey delegation members including U.S. Senators Andy Kim (D-NJ), and Cory Booker (D-NJ), and U.S. Representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12), Frank Pallone (NJ-06), Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Nellie Pou (NJ-09), Rob Menendez (NJ-08), Herb Conaway (NJ-03), LaMonica McIver (NJ-10), and Donald Norcross (NJ-01) released the following statement opposing the recently announced decision by the Department of Transportation to halt previously allocated federal dollars that would have gone towards improving New Jersey's transit infrastructure:

"Today's announcement by the U.S. Department of Transportation to halt the Hudson Tunnel Project is a direct attack on every New Jerseyan who relies on public transportation to get to work, take their kids to school, or operate their business.

"The progress we've made in securing funding for this project comes after years of listening to and working with New Jerseyans on both sides of the aisle and enacting policies that invigorate our state and regional economies and ensures New Jersey remains a place where families of all backgrounds can thrive.

"At this moment, we need to find solutions to reopen the government and address the very real crisis New Jerseyans are facing when it comes to the rising cost of healthcare. We will not and cannot do that by holding New Jersey's critical infrastructure projects hostage.

"Congress approved this money; it's being spent to strengthen our state; the Trump Administration should remove the hold on it immediately and let our neighbors get back to work building our future."
