Attorney General Clark Alerts Vermonters to Potential Restitution In $29.6 Million Glenmark Generic Drug Settlement

Attorney General Charity Clark recently joined a coalition of 48 states and territories in announcing a $29.6 million settlement with Glenmark, a generic drug manufacturer, to resolve allegations that the company engaged in a widespread, long-running conspiracy to artificially inflate and manipulate prices, reduce competition, and unreasonably restrain trade with regard to numerous generic prescription drugs. As part of the settlement agreement, Glenmark will cooperate in the ongoing multistate litigations against 33 corporate defendants and 25 individual executives. The company has further agreed to a series of internal reforms to ensure fair competition and compliance with antitrust laws. The State of Vermont will receive $66,811 for its share of the multistate settlement.

The settlement is the latest announcement in a series of antitrust cases, dating back to 2016, that have been negotiated by a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general. The settlement with Glenmark follows settlements with other drug manufacturers Lannett, Bausch, Apotex and Heritage, totaling $66.95 million.

Joining Vermont in today's settlement are the following states and territories: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Northern Mariana Islands, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and Puerto Rico.
