Interception of the vessel 'Madleen' by Israeli Forces

The Brazilian government is closely monitoring the interception by the Israeli navy of the vessel "Madleen", which was en route to the Palestinian coast to deliver basic humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and whose crew, composed of 12 activists, includes Brazilian citizen Thiago Ávila.

Recalling the principle of freedom of navigation in international waters, Brazil urges the Israeli government to release the detained crew members.

It also underscores the need for Israel to immediately lift all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Palestinian territory, in accordance with its obligations as an occupying power.

The Embassies in the region are on alert to provide appropriate consular assistance, if necessary, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
