Mayor Freeman Statement on Mesa's Water Resilience and the Colorado River

August 1, 2026 at 7:51 pm

Today's federal action falls short of resolving the challenges facing the Colorado River, and there is still much more work to do. The Colorado River is Arizona's lifeline, and protecting its future requires solutions that are equitable, sustainable, and grounded in sound science.

Mesa has spent decades preparing for changing conditions by investing in conservation and building a diverse water portfolio. We'll continue working with our regional, tribal, state, and federal partners--including through the Coalition for Protecting Arizona's lifeline--to protect the Colorado River and strengthen Arizona's water future.

Mesa residents and businesses can be confident that we are prepared and will continue providing a reliable water supply for generations to come.
