IU Kokomo to host community lung screenings on September 30

KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, IU Health, and the End LungCancer Now initiative are bringing Indiana's first and only mobile lung screening unit to the IU Kokomo campus on Tuesday, September 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Community members and campus faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to take advantage of this convenient, and potentially life-saving screening. Appointments are required. The mobile unit will be located at 2300 S. Washington Street, in front of the Kelley Student Center.

Lung cancer screening is a quick, painless process that takes less than five minutes and could save your life. The low-dose CT scan requires no needles, special diet, or change of clothes.

Who is eligible for screening?

Lung screening is a covered benefit by most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Are between the ages of 50 and 77
  • Have a 20-pack-year smoking history (e.g., one pack a day for 20 years, or two packs a day for 10 years)

Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer worldwide. It claims more lives each year than colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined, but there is hope. When caught early through annual screenings, lung cancer is highly curable.

To schedule a screening, please call (317) 962-5864 or email [email protected]. For more information about the program, visit iuhealth.org/lungscreening.
