Ricardo Roig Mural Brings a New Landmark to Willow House in Hoboken
Advance Realty Investors has unveiled a large-scale mural by Hoboken artist Ricardo Roig on the south façade of Willow House, its newly opened boutique residential building at 1404 Willow Avenue. Measuring approximately 28 feet high by 18 feet wide, the mural creates a prominent new visual landmark at the intersection of 14th Street and Willow Avenue.
Inspired by Roig's original Waterfront Party collage, the work depicts a lively, Gatsby-inspired gathering of musicians, diners and guests beneath string lights, with the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline woven into the composition. The scene brings together many of the experiences associated with Hoboken: food, music, conversation and community.
A Hoboken Story, Reimagined at Architectural Scale
Roig has longstanding ties to Hoboken and has created several works throughout the city. His public artwork includes the "Michael Chang" mural overlooking the tennis courts at Columbus Park, while the Roig Collection continues to maintain a presence in Hoboken and other New Jersey communities.
His relationship with Advance also has history. More than a decade ago, Roig exhibited work at The Harlow, Advance's residential and retail development directly across Willow Avenue from Willow House. The new mural brings that connection back to the same prominent Hoboken intersection.
For Willow House, Roig translated the original mixed-media artwork into a large-format installation designed specifically for the building façade. The result preserves the energy and layered character of the original artwork while giving it an entirely new presence at an architectural scale.
Art as Part of the Neighborhood
For Advance, the mural represents more than an addition to the building itself. It reflects a broader approach to creating places that contribute to the identity and experience of the surrounding community.
That approach can be seen throughout Advance's growing presence in Hoboken's North End, where the company has invested in new residences, retail, streetscape improvements and neighborhood amenities. Willow House joins The Harlow, The Bexley and Edge Lofts among Advance's existing North End properties, with additional projects planned or underway throughout the neighborhood.
The mural also aligns with Advance's broader real estate development philosophy: creating projects that respond not only to market needs, but also to the communities and environments in which they are built. Advance's historical materials similarly emphasize strengthening communities and creating places that engage the people who live and work within them.
A New Addition to Willow House
Now actively leasing, Willow House is an eight-story boutique rental community featuring 52 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom residences. The building also includes ground-floor retail occupied by Starbucks and CorePower Yoga, along with rooftop and outdoor amenity spaces designed for residents to gather and enjoy views of Hoboken and the Manhattan skyline.
Located directly across from The Harlow at one of northern Hoboken's most visible intersections, Willow House represents the latest addition to Advance's expanding North End portfolio.
The Roig mural adds another dimension to the project: a piece of public art rooted in the city itself.
For residents arriving home, pedestrians entering the neighborhood and visitors passing along 14th Street, it offers something immediate and memorable: a celebration of Hoboken painted directly into the fabric of Willow House.
