The President congratulated the new Prime Minister of Japan

President Gitanas Nausėda on Wednesday congratulated the new Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, wishing her success and determination in carrying out her responsible duties and working for the well-being of her country and its people.

The President underlined that Japan is Lithuania's most important partner in the Indo-Pacific region. The strategic partnership between Lithuania and Japan, now in its third year, continues to strengthen bilateral political, economic and cultural ties, foster closer cooperation in the fields of defense and cybersecurity, and promote academic, scientific and technological exchanges.

"I firmly believe that Lithuania and Japan have great potential to further advance our bilateral dialogue, and I am confident that under your leadership as Prime Minister, we will continue to seek new ways and opportunities to strengthen and nurture the meaningful friendship between our nations," the President wrote.

Gitanas Nausėda expressed his hope that Lithuania and Japan will remain united by shared values and their determination to defend the rules-based international order at a time when Russia's war against Ukraine continues and China's actions are becoming increasingly assertive.

The President called for further strengthening of the Lithuania-Japan strategic partnership - both by advancing joint initiatives at the bilateral level and by pursuing common goals of ensuring security and prosperity through multilateral formats.
