'Are [Democrats] going to support women, or are they going to tear [Title IX] down and demolish the opportunity for females in sports?'
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) joined a Senate Republican press conference on the importance of keeping men out of women's sports. At President Trump's request, Senator Blackburn filed an amendment to the SAVE America Act that would prohibit school athletic programs from allowing biological males to participate in programs that are for women or girls. EXCERPTS OF REMARKS
"Before Title IX was put in place, we had less than about 300,000 women in high school and college that were competitive in sports. Now, that number is over 3 million."
"What you have is an opportunity for women to compete, to excel, to get scholarships, to learn how to be a part of the team, and to learn how to lead a team - a very important skill that they develop as they go through high school and college and move into their careers."
"Most women are not going to play pro sports, but they really benefit from the opportunity to compete and be a part of a team."
"Democrats have decided they would like to really rip apart Title IX."
"The reason they want to do this is because they would erase… the women's category in sports"
"As we began March Madness, think about this because it would remove that opportunity for women."
"In Tennessee, right now today, there are girls on spring break that are out there bouncing that basketball in the driveway at their house, dreaming of being a Lady Vol and playing for the Vols, dreaming of playing for Vanderbilt."
"Keeping boys out of girls' sports, protecting girls' sports, protecting Title IX - we're going to provide the opportunity this weekend for our colleagues across the aisle to cast that vote."
"Are they going to support women, or are they going to tear it down and demolish the opportunity for females in sports?"
