What Are Coca-Cola Stock Bulls Not Worried About

Shares of Coca-Cola (KO) returned 38.9% over the year to October 16, 2026, outpacing the 15.5% gain for the S&P 500. The beverage giant gave investors reason for optimism in July, raising its annual revenue and profit forecasts following a sales lift from the FIFA World Cup, Reuters reported. At the same time, management detailed a persistent financial strain on shoppers. What is that strain, and how is it reaching Coca-Cola?

Coca-Cola's Low-Income Customers Are Still Under Pressure

During the July 28 earnings call for fiscal Q2 2026, management observed that pressure on low-income consumers "continues to be there across the globe." Executives described an uneven consumer environment. The economy remains strong in many markets, yet numerous shoppers face inflation, geopolitical uncertainty, and broad economic challenges.

The company appears to be spending to keep those shoppers engaged. Coca-Cola grew volume 5% in the quarter. Management said an easier comparison with the year before aided that gain. The beverage maker secured 3 points of growth from pricing, but gave 1 point back to a less favorable mix of sales. Management tied this mainly to the timing of investment, notably in Asia Pacific. Concentrate shipments also ran 1 point behind volume because of timing, management said.

Analysts on the call questioned Coca-Cola about putting more investment into price and mix than expected to win that volume. They also asked about the value share losses the company had cited in India.

If you have held Coca-Cola for years, your biggest question may be taxes, not the next threat to the business. See how a tax-aware transition works.

Asia Pacific Is Small, Yet Coca-Cola Stock Is Expensive

The Asia Pacific market generated $5.64 billion of revenue in fiscal 2025, compared to $19.6 billion for North America, Coca-Cola's largest segment. Regional revenue grew 0.8% that year, following a 0.9% increase in fiscal 2024. The business was barely growing even before management described the investment in July. In the second quarter, Coca-Cola grew volume across all its Asia Pacific operating units, yet the region's comparable operating income declined, management said.

At current valuations, there is little room for that pattern to spread. Coca-Cola stock closed on October 16 at its highest level of the past year. It trades at 8.1 times sales. That multiple sits above 7.1, the highest price-to-sales ratio at any quarter end since fiscal Q3 2016.

Profit is at a high as well. Coca-Cola's operating margin over the twelve months to July 3, 2026 was 31.8%. That figure marks the highest of the 40 quarter ends since fiscal Q3 2016. Any wider spending on price would come out of this margin.

How Worried Should Coca-Cola Holders Be?

Shareholders have a real risk to weigh, though so far it is a slow one. Organic revenue grew 6% in fiscal Q2 2026. Management called this result the high end of its long-term growth algorithm. For fiscal 2026, management expects organic revenue growth of about 5%, a forecast rather than a result.

So far, the hits to reported results are one point of mix and a profit decline in Asia Pacific. Still, the stock price appears to assume they stay that small. Price/mix represents the part of sales growth that comes from prices and from what customers buy. It is the number to watch in Coca-Cola's next quarterly report, expected on or around October 27, 2026.

Long-Held Winners Are The Hardest Positions To Move

Shares bought years ago often carry the largest gains, and the largest tax bills if they are sold carelessly.
