Chinese Consul General in Auckland Chen Shijie Attends the Opening Ceremony of Takapuna Happy Chinese New Year Carnival

On 22 February, Consul General Chen Shijie attended the opening ceremony of the Takapuna Happy Chinese New Year Carnival and gave remarks. Distinguished guests included Minister of Energy and Resources of New Zealand Simon Watts, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party Carmel Sepuloni and several Members of Parliament. Approximately 150 representatives from the local Chinese community and all walks of life participated.

Chen extended Chinese New Year greetings to the communities in the consular district and emphasized that the carnival serves as a wonderful microcosm of the multicultural integration in New Zealand and a vivid reflection of the people-to-people connection between the two sides. He acknowledged the important role of cultural and people-to-people exchanges in promoting bilateral relations and expressed that the Chinese Consulate-General will always stand ready to work with all sectors in the consular district to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, jointly creating a brighter future for China-New Zealand relations.

The opening ceremony was filled with a joyful atmosphere. Traditional Chinese artistic performances captivated the audience, while stalls featuring intangible cultural heritage displays and "Taste of China" cuisine showcased the charm of traditional Chinese culture, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to watch and experience.
