New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with three leading universities in India to advance academic and research collaborations, expand student mobility and strengthen innovation partnerships. All of these agreements were signed in the presence of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy during his trade mission to India.
Three agreements were signed with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) in Manipal, Dayananda Sagar University (DSU) in Bengaluru, and Vignana Jyothi Institute of Management (VJIM) in Hyderabad. These agreements will establish frameworks for faculty and student exchange, joint research initiatives, cultural collaboration and academic program development.
"These partnerships create opportunities for our students and faculty to innovate with world-class institutions in India, expanding our shared commitment to advancing STEM education and research that improves lives in the USA and abroad," said NJIT President Teik C. Lim. "They also strengthen NJIT's role as a global innovation nexus."
The MOU with MAHE establishes a broad five-year framework for collaboration in areas such as research, student and faculty mobility, and dual degree programs in STEM. During the signing, Lim met with MAHE Vice Chancellor M.D. Venkatesh to discuss a myriad of topics ranging from emerging research areas in AI, engineering, robotics and computing, to academic partnerships at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels, such as dual master's degree, 2+2 baccalaureate degree program and joint doctoral study.
The next agreement with DSU sets the stage for further development of numerous potential research and academic areas of collaborations in science, mathematics, computing and engineering. The partnership spawned from a standing relationship between faculty at DSU and NJIT, and will greatly benefit students and faculty in both institutions.
Finally, the third agreement establishes a distinctive 1+1 graduate pathway with VJIM. Through this program, students in VJIM's Post Graduate Diploma in Management will complete one year at VJIM and one year at NJIT's Martin Tuchman School of Management to earn either an MBA or an M.S. in Management (MSM). Credits earned at NJIT will count toward both institutions' requirements, allowing students to graduate with dual credentials.
The program provides students access to NJIT's AACSB-accredited business curriculum, where they can select concentrations in areas such as management information systems, finance, marketing and innovation and entrepreneurship. These tracks reflect NJIT's strengths in data science, fintech and technology commercialization, and position graduates to launch careers at the intersection of business and innovation.
"The partnership with Vignana Jyothi Institute of Management reflects the collaborative mission of the Martin Tuchman School of Management," said Oya Tukel, dean of the college. "By aligning VJIM's PGDM program with NJIT's AACSB-accredited MBA and MSM degrees, we are giving students a seamless pathway to pursue advanced study, explore concentrations in high-demand fields and gain professional experience in the U.S. It is a program that truly prepares graduates to compete and lead in the global innovation economy."
Initial activities across the three agreements are expected to include academic workshops, student and faculty exchanges, and planning for future research initiatives.
