Your City at Work: From the Mayor's Desk

ICE Activity in Stamford: I join my fellow local, state, and federal officials in expressing our concern and heartbreak at what we have seen from ICE officials this past week in communities across Connecticut. Our city is not made safer when people are randomly removed from our streets or when their rights are violated.

I want to share the following rapid response and legal support resources for our friends, neighbors and our broader immigrant community during this difficult time. It is critical that everyone understands their rights, regardless of immigration status. To learn more, please visit the following community organizations:

  The City of Stamford unequivocally remains an inclusive and welcoming city for all immigrants. I have and will stand with our immigrant community as we continue to navigate these ongoing challenges. My administration will remain vigilant in sharing updates as we learn more.

  Please also take a moment to read the following message shared with Stamford Public Schools families this past week by Superintendent Talley, Board of Education President George, and me as students return to school. With the recent elimination of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals, which impacts many in our community, we wanted to share important information and resources with you as we stand alongside our neighbors across Stamford that are concerned about how they will meet the basic needs of their families, including whether their children can attend school.To read the full letter, click here.

  MAYOR'S UPDATES

• Welcoming Stamford Students Back to School: As students, teachers, and staff return for the new school year, I wish our entire Stamford school community a safe, productive, and successful year ahead. I am proud to work alongside Superintendent Dr. Adrian Talley, the Board of Education, and our dedicated educators to ensure our schools have the resources they need to succeed. • Making Stamford Streets Safer: Making Stamford's streets safer for everyone is at the heart of our Vision Zero Program. From safer intersections and crosswalks to automated speed enforcement in school zones, we're continuing to invest in proven strategies that reduce crashes and save lives.   CITY NEWS

• Stay HUSKY Covered: The City of Stamford is partnering with Stamford Health to identify at-risk HUSKY D recipients and assist them in maintaining their health care eligibility before the new rules take effect early next year. This work is being done alongside local health care providers, nonprofit social services agencies, and housing authorities to ensure that we reach individuals and families that need support. • School Construction Updates: For the latest updates from Westhill and other construction sites, check out the August issue of Building Excellence. You can read it here - along with previous issues. Want updates delivered directly each month? Sign up here for our Building Excellence newsletter.

• Beach Permits: Beach permits are now available for purchase online, by mail, or in person at the Cashiering and Permitting Department. Residents are encouraged to buy their permits early rather than wait until beach season! Permits are required May 1st through September 30th. Click here to purchase.

• Apply for a Special Events Permit: To reserve a pavilion or host events at city parks click here.

  RESOURCES FOR RESIDENTS

• Boards and Commissions: Are you a Stamford resident interested in serving on a City Board or Commission? Click here < /a>to learn more about serving.

• Walk In Permitting: Walk-in Permitting occurs weekly every Wednesday from 8:30 - 10:30 am. Walk-in permitting sessions take place on the 7th floor of the Stamford Government Center. For more information, visit here.

Traffic

• Eversource Cable Modernization Project: Eversource has started construction to replace two of its underground cables from 1968. To learn more and sign up for construction updates visit here.

• Old Long Ridge Road Bridge: After a visual inspection of the Old Long Ridge Road Bridge, just south of Hunting Ridge Road, city engineers have implemented a temporary one-way traffic pattern, effective immediately. The City will share further updates as they become available.

• Mill Road Bridge: The Mill Road bridge near Old Long Ridge Road is open to one lane vehicular traffic. On August 4th, 2026, the Engineering Department together with Bridge Design Consultant reviewed the proposed bridge design. To watch the video and learn more about this project, visit here.
