Lowering of the County Flag: William Daniel Mayer

This is to advise that Commissioner President Reuben B. Collins, II, Esq. ordered the Charles County flag to be lowered to half-staff effective immediately and returned to full-staff at sunset on TBD to honor former Commissioner ( 1994-2005), former House Delegate (2005 - 2007) William Daniel Mayer who passed away last night, May 3, 2026.

Board of Trustees, College of Southern Maryland, 2000-07. Member, Governor-elect's Transition Team, 2002-03; Critical Area Commission for the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays, 2003-05. Executive Board, Rural Maryland Council, 2003-07.

Born in La Plata, Maryland, October 30, 1941. Attended La Plata High School, La Plata, Maryland; Charles Community College, A.A., 1962. Served in U.S. Army Reserves, 1964-70. University of Maryland, B.A. (business), 1972. Sales representative, Nabisco Company, 1966-97. Associate broker, Baldus Real Estate, 1972-. Chair, March of Dimes Campaign, 2002, 2003, 2004. President, Charles County Chamber of Commerce. Member, Knights of Columbus, 1965-; Charles County Farm Bureau; American Legion Post no. 82, La Plata, Maryland. Volunteer, Meals on Wheels; Hospice Festival of Trees; Red Cross Summer Classic (Charles County).
