ICYMI: Grassley Calls Out Jack Smith's "Invasion of Privacy" and More

BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA - U.S. Sen. and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) spoke this week on his work seeking accountability for Jack Smith's weaponized Arctic Frost investigation, the Trump administration's action to address high diesel prices and his upcoming Federal Judiciary Youth Summit in Des Moines.

"For the citizens that would ask me, 'This is all history - why are you worried about [Arctic Frost]' We want to expose all this stuff so it'll never happen to anybody in the future, including Jane Doe and Jim Smith here at the grassroots of Iowa," Grassley said.

Excerpts from Grassley's interview on KXEL follow.

On Grassley's Arctic Frost oversight:

"[It's a] pretty darn big [deal] because it shows the power of government, when you weaponize the FBI and the Justice Department to put an ex-president...in jail, so he couldn't ever run for president again.

"... [Jack Smith] went about not only going after [President] Trump, but he went after 50 journalists with subpoenas. He went after more than several hundred Republican organizations, even the cell phones of 44 members of Congress. So, you can see how sweeping his fishing expedition was, and you could easily conclude that it wasn't only to hurt Trump. It was to hurt all of the Republican machinery.

...

"For the citizens that would ask me, 'This is all history - why are you worried about it' We want to expose all this stuff so it'll never happen to anybody in the future, including Jane Doe and Jim Smith here at the grassroots of Iowa.

"Some of the stuff that was subpoenaed [were] bank records, people making contributions of even small amounts of money to the Trump campaign. And so, 4,700 Americans had their bank records subpoenaed. And of those 4,700, there were 42 Iowans that had their bank records checked. And why would Smith need bank records of 42 Iowans? When you get something in the government files, [then] the FBI is going to have the names and the signatures and the addresses and the routing numbers and where the bank accounts are of 42 Iowans and 4,700 Americans. That's an invasion of privacy."

On President Trump's work to bring down diesel prices:

"Trump did take a very important step to eliminate, for the next four months, the federal diesel tax this way: we have red dye in diesel that goes into tractors. Because if you use diesel in the field, you shouldn't pay road use [for] that. They're going to be able to use dyed diesel in their trucks, and that will save them $0.24/gallon at the federal level, and I think something like $0.20[/gallon] at the state level. Governor Reynolds followed on by taking [the state tax] off. So, that's going to be some help for...diesel."

On next week's Federal Judiciary Youth Summit:

"Everybody knows what the president does. Most everybody knows what the Congress does, but hardly anybody has an appreciation for the judicial branch of government. And it's a very important branch of government because it serves as a referee between government and the people. It serves as a referee between powers of the president versus powers of the Congress, and so many other ways.

"And [the judicial branch has] the job of looking at the facts and the laws that apply to the facts. And I don't think people understand it. So, [this will be the seventh] time we've had such a thing for high school students to bring them greater acquaintance with the judicial branch of government, so they have an appreciation for the importance of the judiciary."
