Rep. Nancy Mace Introduces Bill to Shine a Light on Pesticide Use on Federal Land

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 28, 2026) - Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) today introduced the Pesticide Transparency on Federal Land Act, legislation requiring federal agencies to publicly disclose pesticide applications on federal land, providing needed transparency to taxpayer-funded land and facilities.

The legislation directs the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish a publicly accessible database documenting pesticide applications on federal land. Federal agencies would then be required to report pesticide use within five days, including where the pesticide was applied, the active ingredient used, the date of application, and the purpose of the application.

"Washington does not get to spray chemicals on federal land while keeping you in the dark," said Congresswoman Mace. "Americans own these lands. If a federal agency applies a pesticide next to your home, your school, or your water, you have a right to know where, when, why, and what is being used. Transparency does not stop at the gates of federal property, and it is not optional when it comes to the health of our families."

In addition to requiring future reporting, the bill also makes previously compiled federal pesticide application data publicly available through the EPA's database. The legislation includes a limited and commonsense exemption for information whose disclosure would harm national security, while requiring agencies to continue reporting the information to EPA and notify Congress when such an exemption is used.

Under the Pesticide Transparency on Federal Land Act, the public database would include:

• The entity applying the pesticide;
• The location of the application, including geographic coordinates;
• The specific pesticide and its active ingredient;
• The date of the application; and
• The purpose of the application.

This bill builds on Rep. Mace's ongoing work to bring accountability and transparency to pesticide use, including the Pesticide Harm Accountability Act and the SOUND Pesticide Research Act.
