Fourth-year Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy students interested in completing a residency after they graduate in May have learned where they will spend the next stage of their training during Pharmacy Residency Match Day.

"A pharmacy residency is a post-graduate training program designed to provide knowledge and experience that pharmacy providers need in order to face challenges in today's complex and ever-changing health care environment," Krystal Edwards, Pharm.D., professor and associate dean for career development, said. "First-year residencies help train pharmacy practitioners by building upon skills gained during pharmacy school and their professional identity; second year residencies foster growth and development of a specialized skill set in a specific area of pharmacy practice."

A total of 5,681 applicants from across the country applied for one-year postgraduate year (PGY-1) residency programs, and 81% were successfully matched. A combined 36 students from all four TTUHSC Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy campuses participated in the program. In total, 27 students were successfully matched; one student obtained a residency through the Indian Health System outside the match for a total of 28 students who will go on to complete PGY-1 residency training.
