The Supervision of Cybersecurity at Nuclear Power Plants by the NSC Remains Unwavering in the Lunar New Year (Jan 24, 2025)

Lunar New Year is an important holiday for family reunions in Taiwan, but cyberattackers never stop their malicious activities during holidays. In fact, they often take advantage of long holidays to launch attacks. As Taiwan's guardian of nuclear safety, the Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) remains vigilant in its oversight of nuclear power plant safety. Even during the Lunar New Year, the NSC keeps on urging nuclear power plants to enhance cybersecurity for critical digital assets and to ensure nuclear safety.
Critical digital assets of nuclear power plants refer to digital equipment, computers, communication systems, and networks that perform functions of safety, security, and emergency response. These assets also encompass systems or devices that support these functions. If critical digital assets are compromised, it may lead to the failure of essential functions and even impact the safety of the nuclear power plant. The NSC follows the latest international cybersecurity protocols to establish cybersecurity guidelines for nuclear power plants in Taiwan. The NSC requires Taipower Company's nuclear power plants to strictly adhere to network security zoning and isolation controls, implementing cybersecurity protection measures for critical digital assets from technical, operational, and management aspects.
The cybersecurity of nuclear power plants must be flawless. With the Lunar New Year approaching, the NSC remains committed to its mission, continuing to oversee safety measures to ensure nuclear safety and provide peace of mind to the public.
