City of Miami Earns CDP 2025 A-List for Global Climate Leadership

Published on March 16, 2026

The City of Miami is proud to announce that it has received an "A" on its 2025 CDP report, placing it among the top-performing cities in the world for climate transparency and action.

According to CDP, the 2025 Cities A-List demonstrates what this leadership looks like in practice: disclosing climate risks, needs, and opportunities; attracting investment for priority projects; and showcasing replicable, high-impact solutions.

The City of Miami is a leader in controlling flooding through stormwater management projects, incorporating nature-based infrastructure through living shorelines, increasing energy affordability, and mitigating extreme heat throughout the city.

In 2025, 738 cities submitted environmental disclosures, with only 120 achieving an "A" score. Miami is one of just 29 U.S. cities and counties to receive an "A" and is one of only four in Florida: the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Broward County, and the City of Fort Lauderdale.

This is the second year in a row that the City of Miami has received an "A," reflecting the City's continued commitment to progress and leadership in climate adaptation, mitigation, and data transparency.

"Miami earning an 'A' on CDP's 2025 A-List is a major recognition of the work we are doing to lead with transparency and deliver real climate action," said Mayor Eileen Higgins. "For Miami, resilience is about protecting our neighborhoods from flooding and extreme heat, strengthening infrastructure, and safeguarding the economy that families and small businesses depend on. This rating reflects the City employees and partners doing the hard work every day, and it helps us keep building a safer, stronger, more resilient Miami."

"The CDP A-List demonstrates the City's commitment to operationalizing resilience across Miami. We are spearheading stormwater management to control flooding caused by sea-level rise, establishing Cooling Centers for residents during extreme heat events, and benchmarking energy and water use in our buildings, including City Hall, an ENERGY STAR-certified building," said Chief Resilience Officer Sonia Brubaker.

CDP is a global nonprofit that operates the world's only independent environmental disclosure system. The assessment includes a comprehensive evaluation of each city's climate risks, greenhouse gas emissions, resilience strategies, and policy actions toward meeting sustainability goals.

To achieve an "A" score, a city must meet a series of robust leadership criteria. This includes publicly disclosing environmental data, maintaining a comprehensive citywide emissions inventory, and publishing a credible climate action plan. Cities must also complete a full climate risk and vulnerability assessment and set a clear climate adaptation goal outlining how they will address current and future climate hazards.
